"When opportunities come, take them. And if they don't come, make them!" - Andrea's Woman Of Science / STEM session
In The Prologue, from The Canterbury Tales, there is a line that goes: "gladly learn and gladly teach." That is to sum up Andrea’s philosophy of teaching and learning.
It’s so hard to describe a woman in a few words who is so remarkably accomplished in every single field that she has stepped in. Let’s see…some of her achievements include: being one of the only two women in her Masters program in STEM, she not only persevered but also progressed and made her mark in a man’s world despite many road blocks in her way. She has had a prolific STEM career, she was a Girl Scouts volunteer, a Robotics teacher and if that’s not enough, she was elected and then re-elected as a community leader for the West Windsor township.
We spent a truly transformative day with Andrea, getting to know the person behind the name, her drive behind all her accomplishments. Right from the time she walked in through the door and greeted us with her smile, we fell in love with her and all her warmth and charisma. She is often (aptly) described as a person with a bounce in her step and someone with lots of energy.
We couldn’t argue with that, we witnessed the energy and the bounce in her step when some popular Bollywood music came on!
Her reason to be a part of the Woman of Science / STEM campaign was to be able to enjoy seeing and showing “the real me”. And that precisely is our reason behind launching the Woman of Science / STEM campaign - so the women in the field of science / STEM, who are always taken so seriously and always known only by and for their accomplishments, get to enjoy seeing and showing the person behind the titles.
When she is not breaking barriers, she can be found walking in the woods, with her binoculars, amongst birds, in the pollinator garden or looking for frog eggs on leaves. She is also a lover of art museums and history museums and enjoys listening to Simon & Garfunkel.
