"Your passion might light a fire under somebody else to start their own journey and inspire a whole next generation." - Amber Härkönen.

Through our Woman of Science / STEM campaign so far, we have met some truly amazing woman. Amber Härkönen is one such beautiful woman.

"Your passion might light a fire under somebody else to start their own journey and inspire a whole next generation."

Isn’t that something to think about?

Amber is the owner and founder of Hi Goose Studio, a mindfully and lovingly curated vintage and second-hand store. Her mantra is commitment to sustainability without sacrificing style.

Amber has previously worked in the fashion industry as a designer and merchandiser but it is in the space of textile development and fibre development, she says, “I really discovered my passion for fibres and for working with brands to educate designers on the technical aspects of the materials that they are using as well as the sustainability implications of each textile material they choose for their collections”.

Amber is passionate about textiles, loves studying textile fibres, all the chemicals that go into those fibres like what those chemicals do, what kind of dyeing method you would use and all the little minutiae of it. She loves the science behind them, every aspect of them.

Amber’s drive behind doing this portrait session for herself and be a part of the Woman of Science / STEM campaign was to solidify her space online. She was really excited about this photo shoot to make her feel more confident and use these photographs to bolster her presence online in the professional realm.

For her session, Amber brought along various fashion props like textiles, viscose fibres, her measuring tapes, magnifying glass and we had so much fun working on creating some really cool shots. Check out the video below to see all the fun!

We also created some classic black & white portraits for her that she can share hang up on her walls and share with her family and friends.

Watch below the video as kapuPatel Photography takes a peek into Amber’s transformative portrait session where we celebrated her amazing personality and her journey. Watch the behind-the-scenes of the portrait session, take a look at Amber’s beautiful portraits and most importantly, hear her words on her drive behind doing this portrait session.

About her experience with us of the day, Amber said, “Getting my hair and make up done was a real treat as I never ever do it. It was super fun!"

It was also nice to be directed to take photographs, instead of posing and having my husband take a good picture of me. Makes a really big difference when you have somebody who can give you stage direction.”

“As a Scientist turned Photographer, I understand how it feels to have your unique traits and talents sidelined by your professional titles.

Women in science also have a creative side, a spiritual side, a quirky side and a sensual side and all these unique facets of our personality complete us. This bespoke transformational portrait experience is designed to celebrate all these facets that extend beyond your white coats, your labs, your coding and software where you can be authentically your truest self.

Maybe you are a dancer, a musician, a fencer, an artist, a handbag collector, a romance novel writer….come celebrate yourself.” - Kapu Patel
