Our Top Three Tips On What To Wear For Your Family Photos

There is a slight nip in the air and we are looking at Pumpkin spice to flavor our drinks. As we head into the festive Fall season or what we at the studio like to call it, the official “family-photo-season”, here are our top three outfit ideas for your family pictures.

For most of us, the challenging bit of this annual holiday tradition, is to figure out what to wear for family photos. We understand that can be quite a challenging task. Bringing together the different personalities of your family and yet maintaining their individuality, finding a cohesive theme to connect everyone in styling, whether or not you need to shop…. there are just so many things to consider. Don’t worry, you got this. Sip on your hot pumpkin spice flavored drink and take a breath.

Read on our following top three tips that will get you started in the right direction.

PICK YOUR FAMILY COLOR PALETTE

First things first. Depending upon whether it’s an indoor or an outdoor photo shoot, pick a color palette for your family. Try and stay in the same color family - black, grey, beige or deep blue and then throw in a couple bright colors in the mix for the pop.

We recommend a coordinated wardrobe but not completely matching.

Dressing men sometimes can be the tricky. Keeping their clothes neutral and building colorful women’s clothing around it could be an idea. We suggest starting with the women and their accessories and then coordinating men around that.

Depending on the season, you can use pastel to dark colors for your main tones. Pastel colors are great in spring, whites and breezy brights in summer and jewel rich tones in the fall and winter.

DRESS UP AND SHINE BRIGHT!

Go on, bring out those suits, tux, the ornate sarees, the cocktail dresses or the flowy ball gowns from your closets and have fun with them! Your family photos should first and foremost reflect your personality and style.

DRESS FOR THE SEASON

If it’s an outdoor photo shoot, keep the natural backdrop in mind and dress accordingly. In the fall, bring out your favorite boots and scarves! During outdoor shoots in the park, whites tend to cast a greenish tinge on the olive skin tone so keep that in mind.
