How to Prepare for Your Family Photo Session
Family photos are very special and they only grow even more valuable with each passing day. If you have already booked your family session (if you are a local to this area, then we hope it is us!), then we want everything to go as smoothly as possible for you. When you look back at your family photos, we want you to be reminded of all the fun you had as a family and not what a big hassle it was and so here’s a complete checklist to an amazing family photo session.
LET’S START AT THE VERY BEGINNING (IN THIS CASE, THE END)
By thinking backwards we mean, start by thinking how it is that you would like to display your family photos - on that empty wall in your family room or perhaps the cozy corner next to the book shelf above the plant?
Where is it that you will sit down, sip your coffee and look at? Which is the wall that you pass most times of the day and is currently empty? So how about some giggles on there then?
We have a whole range of hand-crafted signature Wall Art offerings that will suit every decor and vibe.
PLAN YOUR LOOK
Discuss your vision with your photographer. Whether it is a formal poised look that you are going for or a more candid casual vibe that captures your essence, planning the look is vital. For instance, we recommend a coordinated wardrobe but not completely matching. Typically start with the women and their accessories and then coordinate men around that. Add some pops of color with choice of accessories, shoes, etc.
We are here with you every step of the way, guiding you with our signature Style Guide and even a virtual Wardrobe Consult.
You can leave it to us to help you with shopping suggestions, color-coordinating and even selection of accessories.
KEEP IT FUSS-FREE
Managing everyone’s schedules, planning the session, the look, and then coming together can be a big daunting task so keep it simple and fuss-free. Remember you are creating memories, so savor the moment and don’t stress over every little detail.
Pro tip - make sure kids (and even adults) are well rested and well fed! Nothing ruins the moment faster than a hungry tummy.
TRUST YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
Let go (or at least try to) stop worrying about how your kids are looking, whether everyone’s looking straight at the camera, if everyone’s smiling and smiling right. That’s the job of your photographer. Getting everyone together and capturing the best of your family is the job so just relax and enjoy your time together. Moms, please take note!
FOCUS ON THE “WHY”
Focus on what’s most important and why you are here for your family photo - to capture the love, fun and connection between you all as a family. It’s about the giggles and hugs. It’s about going back to the moment of when you took the photo so make it memorable and have a good time.
We hope you found this checklist helpful. We would love to hear from you!
