1.YOUR VISION

To begin with - spend some time researching on the style of Headshots and/or the branding portraits you like and speak to you. Having a better understanding of your own style and vision will help you choose your photographer.

2. REVIEWS AND STYLE

Always look at the photographer reviews on Google and on their social media.

Research on the kind of clientele they have. The variety of clientele they have in their portfolio speaks a lot about the photographer’s credibility. A photographer who has the experience in working and dealing with all kinds of people from various walks of professions and roles is someone you can work with and will put you at ease.

Do the quality of the Headshots in their portfolio justify their pricing?

If you are happy with what you see then proceed ahead and reach out to them.

3. CONNECTION

When you reach out to the photographer, see the level of interest the photographer shows in you and your business.

Your Headshot photographer should be interested in knowing:

  • where you are currently in your career,

  • your immediate goals and where you plan to reach 5 years down the line in your career,

  • three things that you would like to convey through your Headshot.

Taking the time to understand your vision, your work goals and dreams and translating them for you on screen is your photographer’s job. So find one who will connect with you, speak your language and will give you the time and the attention.

4. BEING CAMERA READY

Guidance on Styling, Wardrobe and Hair & Make Up - Dressing up for the camera is a lot different than dressing up for an in-person event. Does your photographer just give you an appointment and location and then expects you to turn up in a nice shirt? Or does he/she take the time to guide on your wardrobe and (maybe even be able to offer you the option of Hair & Make Up or a Personal Stylist)?

You might have a favorite color or a suit but if it doesn’t flatter you on camera, it doesn’t really serve it’s purpose.

Your energy is always point on if you are dressed head to toe and your photographer will guide you for the same.
